My Story

I was born in Latvia. During my childhood, the best time spent was in art, coloring, drawing, painting and making Christmas decorations. In the summertime, I was capturing natural wildlife, collecting flowers and making pressed flowers for winter. When winter arrived, I used all my summer memories and experience creating.

Years past by and I was carried away by a totally different occupation. But art never left my mind, and my sketchbooks were filling up with drawings, ideas, and sketches.

When I started my own family, and my first daughter was born - it was like my whole world changed and I knew I needed to make some great changes. The answer - ART. Then came my second daughter, and later my son and that's when things were out of my control. Creativity was in all aspects of life, it was like breathing air, it was my meditation. Without art I was not as good in my family life as I could :) After spending few hours creating something I noticed that I'm much calmer, more motivated to do house chores.

When I was pregnant with my fourth child I decided to devote myself to art more seriously. Got complete support from my family and started exploring more into oil painting which was my most loved medium from student years. Time to time admiring botanical watercolor art and really thinking about giving this medium a try.

Summer of 2016 I went on a trip to Europe with my family. Deciding which of art materials to take on a trip and oils are not an option just because of all mediums and drying process – I bought watercolor set. During travel once in a while I tried my hand with watercolors. This is my first watercolor painting from that trip:

I really enjoyed painting with watercolors, enjoyed how fast it is drying, how easy to use and how little time I need to set up my painting area. Well, this is an important issue after painting with oils :) it takes time to set up, to get all things ready, then again to clean everything and that drying time!!!

After coming back from Europe trip I continued to paint with watercolors and oils. Started looking for online classes for botanical watercolor painting and at that time in 2016 I could find only few options and I tried those options. A one-time opportunity appeared to attend Vincent Jeannerot botanical painting master class. I was completely hooked by botanical watercolor painting and soon after this master class I submitted documents to SBA (Society of Botanical Artists) London Diploma course. Got accepted, learned a lot, practiced a lot and after 2.5 years finished with Distinction!!!

Now I'm a full-time artist painting with watercolors, sometimes for my own pleasure in oils.

I love to paint the things around me. From the fruits and vegetables grown from the earth to a flower in bloom, I am fascinated by the relationship between human beings and the world enveloping them. My studio is based in Sigulda, Latvia, where you can find me with a paintbrush always in my hand! :)
